Layer Isolate - ? Does it exist in Archicad?

In Autocad (sorry, had to use the bad word), there was a function that was a "layer isolate" function. what that did was you could on the screen pick 3 or however many layers you wanted, select them, and isolate them to only show the selected layers as "ON" (showing). Every other layer would "FREEZE" or in archicad's terminology "HIDE".....

Is there anything in Archicad that does the same thing? Graphically?
Right now, I'm having to go to my layer list, select all, HIDE all, then deselect all, then click "UNHIDE" the layers I want to see.....

There's got to be a better way to do this graphically with layers you see on the screen.

If you have the Quick Layers palette on (Windows> Palettes> Quick Layers) you can select layers then hit the closed eye in the "Others' layer*" section to turn everything else off.

*Does that even make sense? Shows as "All Layers" until something is selected.

When you open up your layer settings (ctrl-l), there should be two planes. One is the layers themselves (on the right) and the other is for combinations of those layers (on the left). If you select the layers you want to show, and then select "NEW" under the layer combination plane you can save that combo. You can then either reopen layer settings, or you can use the quick options box, or the quick layers pallet to exert control over what layers or combos you are currently viewing. And it's as easy as selecting the saved layer combo to view what you need.

Also, in my layer combo settings I make an "All Layers On-Hidden", "All Layers On+Hidden" and a "All Layers Off" combos for convenience.

The "All Layers On-Hidden" is for hiding my job side notes and my SEO operators when I want to see everything I have done so far. Often I want all layers on but I don't want the operators or all my side notes popping up because they tend to have nothing to do with the actual drawing itself. That's what the "All Layers On+Hidden" is for. I use it to see the stuff I don't normally need to see.

One more thing. I put a space in front of the "All Layers" combos names so it sorts those names to the top. Example: "[space]All Layers Off".

What is it that makes QUICK LAYERS not work sometimes? File Size? Seems after a while in a TW2 file (and regular plan file for that matter) I select an object and choose HIDE ALL OTHER and nothing happens...

vfrontiers- I've noticed that in v14 the QUICK LAYERS palette will stop working. To fix it, just turn the palette off and on again.

I have no idea why it stops working or why that fixes it, but it does!

I'll give that a try...

While I'm complaining why is it that I leave the quick layers palette open when closing a file and when I open it back up the palette is gone? Then, I mess around with something else, like SEO's and the quick layer palette reappears?

Also, can we fix the darn Mac AC Toolbox to STAY where I put it? Ever stinking time, no matter how many times I redefine the WorkEnviron, it shows up FULL LENGHT and offset..

Petty, I know, but all the other palettes (except quick layers and toolbox) seem to stay...

I haven't had any trouble with the toolbox.

The Quick Layers problem is a longstanding issue which apparently has to do with the fact that it is not implemented the same way as the other palettes. It often reappears in the same place on the screen regardless of where it was last moved and it seems that when it doesn't appear it is actually behind other windows since it often pops up when I switch in and out of ArchiCAD. In any case it would be great to see it fixed.

I added the 'Hide Others' tool to my custom toolbar, and created a keyboard short cut for the 'Show/Hide Toggle' (CTRL+SHIFT+L) and haven't noticed any issues with either not working over time in standard or TW2 files. I don't use the lock toggles so I'm not aware if those would have issues.
