Syringe Tool

can i setup the syringe (alt+click) tool to grab the horizontal / vertical attributes from dimensions?? if so, thx in advance.

I have mentioned this before on ArchiTALK but things get old and then forgotten. This syringe transfer for horiz. or vertical has been a wish for as long as I have been using AC ( V4.55), and it does not seem to be a priority of GS. In my practice I most often dimension to walls or at least walls are part of a string. If you set the dimension to Angled and then click on the first wall to start the string the direction will automatically be set to be perpendicular to this wall. You may then click on other wall edges, lines, slabs or whatever and then finish your string in the normal fashion.

This has saved me much screaming and gnashing of teeth.

Yep - Gerald's right, always use the angled method. The first two nodes in the dimension string set the reference angle!

now that have checked this super tip for me, i feel like changing the subject to 'i dont know how to use the dimens'g tool'....this really takes away the syringe tool problem i had....thanks alot.....onother thing is that the syringe tool has potential

This would be even more helpful if dimensions recognised points perpendicular to first point.

Always remember that you can rotate dimensions after placing, whatever their original setting is.

When I try that with associative dimensions, they disappear. Is that only with Static dimensions?

Nope.

I believe it only works on dimensions that are placed by clicking on individual nodes, not on edges. So it does depend on the method ytou used to place them - I guess the logic is why would you need to rotate dims that we placed the correct way the first time, as the are when placed by clicking on wall edges, thus setting their reference vector correctly.

I was trying it on walls by clicking on their edges! How dare I try to be efficient! 😉
