Trace reference and layers

Can a trace reference have different layers turned on than my current working view?

It appears that if I select a view to use as a trace reference, the layerset stored in that view does not show up in the trace reference, unless I turn on these layers. Is this right?

I ran into this today. I didn't really think about it and just kept turning on the layer that I needed to see. I now realize that that layer has nothing to do with the view I was working on so i'm going to turn it on in the Layer Combination for that view so I don't have to worry about it again. Seems like this will come in handy for other views as well. As for whether or not there is a another way to automatically show these layers in the current view, it makes sense to me that you are only going to see what is saved in that view. I'm sure if I'm wrong someone will let us know.

The Active view and the Referenced view will use the layer combinations assigned to them. But you must be sure to reference views not viewpoints. That is, reference from the view map, not the project map.

If you want to reference a viewpoint using the current layer combo, then you do need to reference from the project map.

Thanks, Link. That's what I was missing. I have a view and a viewpoint with the same name, so it is confusing. I think I will change the name of one of them so it is more obvious what I am choosing.

Next question: Is there a way to remove a trace reference I no longer wish to use from the reference list?

Despite our best efforts, no not AFAIK.

However the list is only supposed to show the most recently referenced view/viewpoint/layout specific to the active view, so eventually they will change.

yeah, i knew this... I've been using trace ref in the same way ghost story used to be: ie, same layers as my active view and tracing story up or down or other story. However, I still find it infuriatingly slow in comparison to what ghost story used to be like.
I dare not use a different layer comb for the trace ... which in effect means that not only am I not using the amazing new capabilities this new function could offer, but I am not even using what I did use quite a lot prior to this 'improved' functionality.
