Want to cull my Fills list

I'm trying to delete my unused Fills, but they automatically reappear in my Fills list.

I've spent hours carefully deleting the useless and the repeats, and got my list down to about 100 Fills (which I renamed), using both Attribute Manager and the Fill Type dialogue.

But low and behold, the 75 or so banished Fills just keep coming back , quite magically I might add....

Any thoughts anyone? Thanks in advance.

PS Anyone know how to sort the Fills list by name, and not by "vector fills" first and then "symbol fills" at the bottom? (ie. when accessing Fills from the options bar, and not from Attribute Mgr)

Fills are always sorted by Solid/Empty, Vectorial, Symbolic, then Composites and there is no way to stop that AFAIK.

All I can say is to be careful when stripping out all your fills, as mentioned here.

Paring down is okay, but still risky if you delete past what GS gave you. Did you happen to merge or hotlink any other project or module? Did you copy/paste other things into your project? Did you open up any other project and bring in elements via your Organizer? Any of these methods will bring in attributes from the outside.

Cheers,
Link.

I know of one way that can cause this (there might be others): Fills can be defined in GDL. If you loaded a library that contains a GDL file which has Fill definition commands in it (this is usually a GDL file starting with the string "MASTER...") then no matter how many times you delete those fills, every time you reload the Library, those MASTER GDL files are executed and any Fills defined in them will be recreated. Maybe it comes from an Add-On Library or Third party Library. If you unload those MASTER GDL files from the Library, they will not recreate those Fills.

Thanks for both your very helpful replies.

I've been on AC for 4 years (not what I'd call "beginner") and I still struggle with streamlining my Materials, Fills, and Favorites from project to project. Frustrating!!

A real nice clean list of indexed Materials and Fills doesn't seem possiible. Looks like I'll follow Link's advice of not messing with the index numbers.
And then use Favorites.
