howdy

we recently upgraded from v11 to v16

i was asked to put on a small presentation showcasing the new features and various workflow enhancements etc

i have compiled a list of things i would like to discuss... but thought i would pop on here and see if anyone had any "cool new features"... gold nuggets.. or even websites / comparison sites that might help me round out the presentation

any & all suggestion gratefully received

thanks in advance

I'm sure you've seen the list of new features in each version here:
http://www.archicadwiki.com/ArchiCAD%20versions

The total new features in 12, 13, 14, 15, and 16 is pretty long... better have lots of coffee and food available. 🙂

i had seen that.. thanks

yeah.. it is not going to be an exhaustive presentation.... more a wham bam taster of what has been added

unfortunately... the office has been underutilizing archiCAD in a big way... it seems to have descended into being a glorified digital drafting table

the idea is to inspire with the presentation.. and try and getting people excited about embracing the new features... and trying to get the office back on the BIM track

Good luck! Maybe someone will have some good ideas for you here. And, do come back afterwards and share with us anything that got your troops inspired and fired up. 🙂

I've heard a few occasions of offices using ArchiCAD as a drafting table. That is clearly a sign of an office (or management) taking BIM (or even CAD) not seriously. ArchiCAD is an expensive software and if all you do is drafting, you could have used some cheap or free AutoCAD clone too.

But if you have ArchiCAD, at least start to get serious about using the basics correctly. Maybe some additional training or a decent in-house demonstration could really help to get you going again to embrace BIM.

It is really about improving your design and building process: more productive drawing (by correct modeling), more effective communication with compelling and clear 3D images, more effective collaboration with BIM Server and openBIM exchange.

Unfortunately, comparing to other CAD or BIM software, there are not that many books available that give a complete project-based approach to how to work inside ArchiCAD.

One thing to point out the Teamwork feature that was improved on in v14. If used right it really is a killer feature.

HUGE thanks for all the replies

is there a repository somewhere of videos / images that showcase some of these new features... some eye candy to go with the overview of the features

thanks again for all

I'm probably too late, but Graphisoft Connect has a great Graphic Upgrade Calculator. It covers everything from version 10 to 17. They updated it when 17 came out, so hopefully they'll update it again next year...

http://www.gsconnect.co.uk/calculator.php

I also wrote a post about it here:

That post also has links to some of the change guides from previous versions and links to some of the undocumented changes of more recent versions.
