BIMCloud Basic errors getting out of control

Sefa Yakut

Hi,

I have a teamwork project that I work on through BIMCloud Basic.

The .pln file size is 5 GB. When I share the project on BIMCloud Basic, it is 10 GB. I know this is normal.

but,

when I work on this project and send/receive files, I started getting a lot of error messages.

I've tried saving the file as .pln, applying “open and repair,” and sharing it under a different name multiple times, but it didn't solve the problem. I need to work on the file stably and deliver the project. I didn't see this issue before.

My file is from Archicad 18, and I'm currently working in version 27—could this be affecting it? Or are there other points I should be focusing on?

I am tempted to merge your post with this one which is basically the same problem.

There is lots of reading for you.

The only thing stopping me is you mention your file is from version 18.

So was it working in teamwork before with no issues?

I know you won't like this answer, but other than reading through the post I linked to, you should contact your local support to see if they can shed any light on the problems.

I won't be much help as I don't use teamwork.

I believe BIMcloud SaaS is less troublesome than BIMcloud Basic as you do not have to worry about server permissions and setup as much, but I am not 100% sure on this.

If you have the Collaboration subscription, you will have access to BIMcloud SaaS.

@Sefa Yakut,

You say that the PLN file is 5 GB. That is not normal, and it is not good.

On the BIM Manager Program, we teach that a PLN file over 1 GB is considered large, and above 2 GB it is of critical size, which may cause all sorts of problems. At that point, you need to start to seriously consider managing file sizes and bringing them down to manageable sizes. Some of the things you may consider:

  • Dividing the Project File into multiple PLN files (and hotlinking them as necessary)
  • Splitting the Project File into two PLN files, one containing the model only, and the other containing the documentation only (Layout Book).
  • If your Embedded Library is very large, exporting it, uploading it to the BIMcloud server, and linking it from there, so it does not increase the size of the Project File.
  • Checking what is causing the huge file size (large placed images/documents, point clouds, lots of attributes/textures, etc.) and taking steps to reduce it.
