Today's continuing problems with Amazon Web Services (AWS) hosted apps, services and sites made me curious about where/how Graphisoft's various cloud services are hosted and how secure they are from interruption - which could be an issue when projects are on deadline.
I think Graphisoft uses Microsoft Azure services? I read that some financial institutions utilize multiple cloud service providers so that if one has a problem, they can switch over to the other to maintain service. Probably expensive, but curious if Graphisoft does anything like that?

From my understanding the BIMCloud SaaS servers are hosted in google data centres.
So they definitely are susceptible to an outage should a google data centre have an outage.
It’s definitely something we have been weighing up before moving to BIMCloud SaaS.
Knowing you are much more in control of an OnPremises BIMCloud server is definitely reassuring, but outages are still possible with onprem.
Word on the street today is Autodesk Construction Cloud is ‘dysfunctionally slow’ today as it it hosted on AWS and affected by the outages.

Looks like Graphisoft uses Microsoft Azure, which is down today:

We are currently not being able to work on BIMcloud due to Azure servers being down. Also its is not possible to connect to Graphisoft license manager.

Same. So it's Azure this time, but GS posted about being affect by an AWS outage last week ( https://community.graphisoft.com/t5/Graphisoft-Insights/AWS-Outage-Temporarily-Impacted-Services/ba-... ).
Clouds services feel pretty vulnerable right now now.

I was told by tech support last year that SaaS was hosted by Amazon servers. Which was also down today.

I also had reports from two former clients (when I sold ArchiCAD) that their cloud licenses weren't working either. Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't those supposed to be safe from server outages? They should only need to register with the cloud license servers every 30 days? Which is why they are supposed to work on planes, etc.

I think there may be a difference between the floating and named cloud licenses.
At least that is my hunch.
A 'floating' license is assigned to any company member on demand.
30 minutes after Archicad is closed, the license is automatically released back to the company pool.
The question is, does this include when the internet connection is down or the cloud servers are offline?
A 'named' cloud license will be assigned to the particular user and transferred to that computer when they sign into Archicad.
It will not be released when Archicad or the computer is closed.
Loss of internet should not affect it.
And I hope cloud server outages should not either - but this is unclear.
The license is now on that machine and as far as I can remember from what I have read, so long as there is an internet connection every 7 days, the license will continue working.
My question is, were all those affected using 'floating' licenses?
Or were they using 'named' (or assigned) licenses?
Either way the license should continue to work with a cloud server outage, but definitely so if it is a named license.

I’ve changed all of our cloud licenses to named so they remain active for 7 days once internet connection is lost. We also have a few floating licenses.
