I would guess that you have turned on the 3D Grass: check the Detailed Settings checkbox then look at Options > Grass.

Testing out the Maxon Cinerender on AC19 for the first time. The default setting for 3D grass should be changed. It made it un-usable for me on my imac mid2011 with 24mb ram. I read Graphisofts Rendering Trouble shooting guide
http://helpcenter.graphisoft.com/troubleshooting/3d-modeling/texture-overwrite-fails/ but It still seem slow to me
