I am able to view most, but not all on my Macintosh G5. How about you?

I have version 3.2 on Windows XP.

FWIW, the presentation is coming through fine on Linux too 😉

Oh, I have a very old version of the conversion software from Deep Exploration (still cold 3D Exploration), that while running in trial mode never expires 😉 But $150 is OK.

I also have 3DWin conversion software (shareware, $50) that does quite a few conversions as well).

The VRML from ArchiCAD is often not directly usable. In fact, I often export as *.3ds from ArchiCAD in do the conversion in 3ds max or something similar to get a usable and clean VRML file.

WireFusion sure is addicting. Once again I post a test. This one tested textures and an avatar. Notice there is collision detection. Wonder what happens when you walk off the end of the disc??

I have purchased WireFusion and it is starting to have a huge impact on my small practice. I can easily post a 3D model of the clients future home of addition. It is instantly downloaded and viewed on the client computer without any need for plug-in, etc. This happens because it is 100% JAVA based product.

Currently I export a 3ds model from ArchiCAD to Cinema4D. In Cinema I then export as a "Quality VRML2", I say quality because for some reason the VRML model export from ArchiCAD directly does not work. This is something that I am sure can be fixed by GraphiSoft.

I created a small 2MB movie file that shows and explains just a few features of this program. The demo movie picks up from the point of a saved VRML2 ArchiCAD Model and it shows a peek at the WireFusion working environment. I created this demo movie as an ArchiFriend, I sincerely feel that this program allows a "communication extension" to ArchiCAD. If you value the 3D building model as much as I do, then you probably share the desire to display your work to your client. I am convinced that this program allows you to do this in the easiest manner possible. Beyond that, if you really pick up the basics of WireFusion you can create presentations with options, optional textures, light schemes, optional camera views, etc.

Looking at the 600+ views on this thread GraphiSoft must see the interest we all have in real time presentations. It would be easy for Demicron and GraphiSoft to integrate their products.

Well,.... on to the show. (remember I am an amateur movie maker) 4.5MB

Moving your model from ArchiCAD to Wirefusion requires you to export a VRML2 file from ArchiCAD. Since ArchiCAD cannot do that, "as far as I know", you then need to find another piece of software to make the translation. [ ArchiCAD has a VRML output but that did not work for me]

Cinema4D and MAX will work perfectly to translate the file and allow you to work on the textures, lights and camera settings. However if you don't have this software you will need to purchase a solution. If you were debating if you should buy C4D, this is another use for the software that can help your workflow.

*** Searching for an inexpensive solution ***

I have just searched the net and found a good solution which is easy on the pocketbook.

WINGS 3D - is a shareware solution. The latest version Developer Release 0.98.28a worked best.

I was able to import a simple ArchiCAD model into Wings and export a VRML2 file which WireFusion could read. However it did not work with more complex models. The software might work better on Windows, but I was looking for one solution that could work on Windows or Mac.

Give it a try, if it works for you support the developer with a donation.

Blender3D Open Source freeware can export to VRML2
Available on Windows, Mac, Linux and others.

Maybe this does what you want?

Thanks for the tip.

I looked at it, don't understand how to import ArchiCAD model, tried obj without success.

Seems that there are plenty of converters for the Windows Platform listed on 4 pages at:

http://www.3dlinks.com/links.cfm?categoryid=1&subcategoryid=11

I haven't seen one that really works well with OSX.

How about an export plug-in for ArchiCAD that produces a working VRML2 file. That would be the easiest. My guess, there isn't such an animal.

ArchiCAD has a VRML2 exporter. It's just not that good 😉

Other solutions? PC-only: 3DWin Shareware (about $50). It also has the 3dto3d library, which is Linux-only. I'm not sure if it would work on OSX, since it's not an open-source solution and the library is provided as an ELF-executable, which I highly doubt would work on OSX.

Export as 3ds from ArchiCAD and do the conversion elsewhere...

It looks like CE+ is at least a few versions back. Is this correct.

Thanks,

Yes, a few versions and lots of $$ less. I am just looking to set you up with the tools necessary to translate between AC and WireFusion. This should work.
