Lights in ArchiCAD

Hi Guys,

I have only recently started using archiCad and have just embarked on my first major project using this software. After creating a building in ArchiCAD and adding objects I want to put lights on the roof before I render it in Artlantis, however I cannot find any light objects in the objects library. Can anyone guide me in the correct direction?

Your advice would be much appreicated as I cannot find any reference to this.
My advice would be to not use the Window Light objects (Lamps) with CineRender, they are a holdover from the older LightWorks rendering engine (to fake Global Illumination). Start with one of the provided Scenes (PhotoRendering Settings > Scene > Select and Mange Scenes...), try one of the Medium scenes, which yield a good balance between quality and speed. You should not need the Window Light with these Scenes.

These are a T in plan.... is the cantral arrow of the T supposed to point in or out of the building and is the object placed on the exterior or interior of the wall line? I have tried all different configurations and it seems to make no difference in the render. I have the lamp setting on and the sun off as I have a sun object.
When I used these with LightWorks: the arrow points into the room, and I placed them just inside the window, sized to match the window size. You are probably not seeing much difference as this source just adds to Global Illumination.

There should be others on this forum with more experience with CineRender, but this is what I have discovered. You can also post some images with the CineRender Settings and maybe someone will have additional advice.

You should add a Signature to your Profile (click the Profile button near the top of this page) with your ArchiCAD version and operating system (see mine for an example) for more accurate help in this forum.

Thank you very much David,
I will try this "medium" scene and see how it goes.... it is so difficult to get the guidance from the tutorials on this so really appreciate your reponse.
Thanks so much.

FWIW, Cinema 4D (the rendering engine of Cinerender) has GI Portals, which are comparable to the Window lights. Not sure if you can access them from ArchiCAD though, but they do help tremendously in guiding light from exterior into an interior with much less noise.

Would be nice if CineRender would use them as GI Portals, but they still keep their usefulness (= bringing in light from outside).
