With RGB this weirdness does not happen. I guess I should leave it at that, though it's irritating I can't find an explanation of how H, S, and B interact by googling.

This has been a long standing problem with ArchiCAD's color space. HSB and CMYK don't really work. RGB is the only reliable method to set accurate colors.
