About the image: there is only one light source (sun), atmospheric light and Neon glass (a material).
I confess I am guilty of jumping into ArtlantisR without taking the time to properly train myself on it. I just have my cat walk across the keyboard and it still produces pretty nice images.

Your renderings have convinced me I have to make the time: In the restaurant interior, from which of the three light sources is all that lovely sunshine pouring into the room?

I have learned (the hard way) that it is almost impossible to get good interior lighting only on sunshine, specially if you have a deep room with lot of obstacles.

I guess this is why Abvent people invented neon Glass - to allow us non rendering professionals to cheat and get quick results.

So here are the settings for that particular scene. I think neon Glass is responsible for 99% of the outcome, and heliodon/sky illumination play a minor role.

This, I should add, is a slow rendering setting (neon and Fresnel do take a lot out of your machine), so it would be a good idea to do a 320*240 no aliased experiment beforehand.

Ah, and when you hit the jackpot, don't forget to save your settings as a Postcard. I have reused that Neon Glass in all my dark interiors, with minor adjustments.

Have fun

Miguel,

simply beautiful!

Thank you Thomas, but most of the credits should go to those Abvent guys. I just took the time to fool around with their software

OK OK, I'll buy, I'll buy! (at least if Graphisoft doesn't include radiosity in AC10)

As I am no Betatester for AC10, I can speculate freely. I do not think there will be Rad in lightworks so soon, for the same reason it is not there yet: Graphisoft must have an agreement with Abvent about this.

Besides, even if there where Rad, I still would not leave Artlantis (despite all those horrible bugs, reminds me of AC

It is not about (well, not only) radiosity, it is about ease of use, instant preview, drag and drop, etc. It is about not being a professional illustrator, but simply an architect who needs some fast decent looking renderings.

After all, here is life after Radiosity...

Go to www.artlantis.com and see.

R is completely new thing.

Well, now.

ejrolon has a point, I think.

of course Artlantis has all this new capabilities, like Radiosity, fresnel, neon, objects, album, multiprocessor using, what not.

But, if someone asked me what the MAIN difference is, from 4.5 to R, I could say loss of moviemaking.

And it is not just me, check http://www.abvent.com/community/survey/results_survey.php?id_sondage=1

"80% Question 37- Radiosity and Animation: I want radiosity with animation, even if it is slow"

Most of artlantis users complain about Abvents policy to divide their software in two, dropping animation from R version and including it in (soon to be released) Studio.

So, if you want to be nasty about it, you might be justified to say that dropping animation is the most important change for Artlantis users.

I know it has been for me! I have not done a single animation in 6 month, when formerly I used to do one for almost any project.

have fun (but without animation...)

Agreed. This is a decision that I also don't like too much ...

... but that is not the only difference.

Don´t misunderstand me

I love Abvent for Artlantis R (it makes my life SO much easier regarding my clients), but I would marry them if they had included animation ( and less bugs...).

Hi Miguel,

Just from a side since I'm not an Artlantis user.

What do you mean by that? AFAIK Abvent didn't invent radios(c)ity, they just implemented it and optimized for speed and perfomance in the ArtR call it fastRadiosity.

Please put some light on it since I'm not an expert and might be wrong.

Maybe there won't be any radiosity in AC 10, but we'll never know if we won't demand it, after all if Graphisoft want to stay on top they need to listen what are the needs on the market. LightWork Design is ready to cooperate in this matter:
