Sketch Rendering Speed

Has anybody else experienced extremely slow sketch rendering performance?

I run ArchiCAD 8.1 .0v1 USA (1410) on a PowerMac G4 1.25 w/ 768 MB of ram. When trying to sketch render a project I am working on I get insanely high rendering estimates. I was using the Copperhead rendering Style with default values at 1024 by 768 and the rendering estimated time started at 10 minutes then kept climbing until it was over eight hours and kept climbing. After an hour I stopped it so I don't know how long it would have actually took. The project is large about 220 units but the building is not finished being modeled and is very plain and most of the interior 3D objects were turned off. Is this expected results or is something wrong with my setup? Sections and elevations w/ shadows also take a long time to generate (10-20 mins).

What is your experience with the sketch renderer on larger projects?

As in every 3d application rendering ,speed slows down when the number of faces increases. For example if you apply italian tiles with the accessories tool on a roof, usually the render takes much more time because of the large number of faces.Sketch rendering takes more time when vectorial hatches are applied to materials and appear on your scene. Try also to see what happens when you render without shadows.

Just, an update I tried letting the rendering from previous post finish and the estimated time was 1900 minutes after 6 hours have already elapsed. That's an estimated total of about 36 hours or 1.5 days. I've rendered movies of much more complicated imagery in less time than this single image in going to take. The rendering is of a large building but it is not a complicated building.

Coincidentally, if you sketch render the building without shadows on it renders the image in under 5-10 Minutes. I think there must be a bug in the rendering engine as a 36 hour penalty for having shadows on seems absolutely ridiculous.

Does somebody from Graphisoft have any knowledge of a bug in the Rendering Engine?

Michael,

Please post a pdf of the model. A picture is a thousand words, etc.
