Hello,

I created this little scene and rendered it lastnight, I can't believe that a Lightworks novice like me can create such real life images so quickly.

Graphisoft has done an incredible job with 9.0 and lightworks.

Any comments will be greatly appreciated.

I don't agree I think I'm getting perfectly useable results using the LW engine. I can now do it all in ArchiCAD without having to export to another package setup materials and lights etc.

Having the LW engine has saved me so much time as we have to constantly change the design until the boss is happy with the result. Also the speed of the LW engine is great as I'm now getting results in anything from 5-10 minutes compared to the AC internal engine which could take ages.

We used to have Artlantis but the boss wasn't persuaded to maintain the updates even more so now that we producing it all in AC here are a couple of the images I have made using AC+LW engine (you may have seen them elsewhere on the forum)

http://tinyurl.com/5pcz3 The Leith image is actually an Artlantis rendering btw

Have you any examples of the Artlantis renderings you've done as it would be interesting to see them?

As for Strata's radiosity rendering times they are slow but hey only a year ago they were even slower! Typical rendering times for Strata have dropped from one and a half hours to less than 30 mins for raytraced images. This is why Strata isn't part of my normal day to day workflow and ArchiCAD is

Here's an AC+LW render, took 127 seconds. Fakosity shadows and the lighting to the ceiling is a bit obvious but useable

Thank you. Now I am impressed (a little). I can tell its much better shodows than Art*lantis too. now make it as good as it can look with AC LightWorks.

Another "fakiosity" rendering using the free Cinema4D CE.

5 minutes rendering (most time was spent on anti-aliasing). This can be almost cut in half, by lowering the amount of raytraced reflections. Anti-aliasing, however is absolutely necessary for smooth edges...

I did about the same as with the windowlights, namely adding a bunch of small lights next to the windows. There are 35 lights (16 for each large window and three on the small window). No sun or other lights.

The one light is an omni light with a blue color, soft shadow, low brightness, no specular light, fallof and diminished contrast.

This is not using any radiosity whatsoever. I'm not really digging into LightWorks at the moment.

I wish I could get Cinema to produce images like that, nice one and pretty quick to.

this is the best i could do with art*lantis 4.5.6- still not what I want.

I would like to see it done with the new Art*lantis R

fine. I will cave in and give LightWorks a try.

Thanks for the link, I will take a look at that. I actually have an older version of Cinema CE6+ or something like that.

I got a bit annoyed with it (most likely due to my incompentance) as I use a two monitor setup and found the Cinema interface a bit of a swine to get it configured the way I wanted it. Also I found defining materials and the like not as straight forward as Strata or ArchiCAD for that matter.

I should give it another try and if I remember right, somewhere on the forum Mark B posted a tutorial for a workflow from AC to Cinema which I obviously should give a go to do Cinema justice.

Thanks again

I can make the shadows lighter with Art*lantis but they are still sharp edges. I don't like that. This one has lighter shadows but still vibrant light.
The Artlantis render certainly looks very harsh to me. It sounds like Artlantis 5 may well address these issues but at the moment it certainly seems to be lagging behind the current market.
