iMOVIE HD to Roku :D

I just finished the initial exploration of using Apple's new iMovie HD to assemble and edit a test file which could be burned to a CF (Compact Flash) - inserted into a Roku allowing the animation to be played on a HDTV. HDTV to me is the Holy Grail of presentations, a HUGE canvas, onto which you can display compelling sights and sound.

The experiment was a success and it now has several companies talking to each other. Amazing thing about it, this technique allows you to create 1 MB per second of animation. A 1GB rewritable CF card will display approximately 10 - 16 minutes of material. The material is 1920x1080 @ 29.9 fps. <-- could you ask for more?

Here is a link to a downsampled test, (Please do not critique - slapped together within 15 min. - anything Hi Def that I could find - who did that City scene? IvanG?

This downsampled animation is provided to show you a representation of a what the HD file looks like - Divx at 29.7 fps, data Size 5.7 MB - length 42 seconds.

Anyway, the same file at High Definition is 31 MB in size, 29.9 fps @ 1920 x 1080 resolution, true HD. It displays on a 51" HDTV, crystal sharp, snappy, no lag. You need to run it using a Roku, but $299 is much cheaper than the $2,000 HDCAM Steve Jobs showed us.

I sold my Roku on eBay and ordered a unit from a different manufacturer, IO Data - Their unit is called the AVeL Player. Basically it is just like a DVD player, except it can see your computers on the ethernet network and access music, still photography and AVI files, too. If you burn a 1920 x 1080 animation onto your own DVD, which you can do with a Mac and iMovie HD - you can then have a High Definition Presentation play from a DVD.

The AVeL LinkPlayer2 is amazing.

You can now create a rendered presentation compile it in iMovie-HD, burn to DVD and play on HDTV.

This unit is the best multimedia device I have ever seen.

It also sees the PC or Mac through the network, plays all of the Music files (iTunes Folders) the Picture files (iPhoto Libraries) and the Video files (iMovie projects)

Very Impressive, it does it all.

I went to this web site and downloaded HD Quality Movie Trailers, I burned them to a DVD and played them flawlessly on a HDTV. Looks great! It will even stream video through the network.

HD Movie Trailers:

Requires a fast computer and DivX

If I had them, three thumbs up!

On this same subject, High Definition Presentation, here is something to check out. Not now, you are at work - but check it out later.

Please no offense, just off-beat humor. Used to be a day when the Taste Police walked a beat at Archi-CAD TALK. I believe it was Sgt. McGillacutty Atkinson. He used to whack his baton onto the mouse hand of anyone generating slop.

Sorry, the animation I posted was just a spoof, it made me chuckle when I played it and I couldn't help myself so I posted it. The piece was for testing purposes of HD in the office only, to this day I laugh when I see the huge lettering fall from the sky (Helvetica Bold for sure) to boast the name, and the dialog? please, isn't it quite funny? Please don't be serious here, actually glad you like it.

Animation reminds me of the day when DTP came into being, ooh look at all the different fonts on THAT page. Now we see, "Look at all the different transitions and special effects in that piece."

Could this mean it is time for ArchiContest (cine version)??

Cole,

Here is a concept video that I did about a month ago. This one is actual and I welcome your input. Client had me design a new car wash in El Cajon, CA. Currently undergoing several revisions after further thought. That is what this stuff is for, visual thinking, critique and analysis.

Of course I had all of the typical drawings, but he really liked the DVD.

Client is in his 40's who owns two successful car washes and he is going for his third.

Very nice, but apparently the map for the playground lost its transparency settings. I hope your client likes Chicago. When I do that type of work I usually go with jazz (SpyroGyra, Mangione, Ponty) or something from Phillip Glass since they work very well as background music, but that is just my taste. If you want royalty free music you can try to find something useful here
