lightworks rendering issue

Hi

I have a new dell computer with quad core processor, 4gb (3.3, win32 vista) Ram, NVidea 8800Gt 512Mb Graphics

My model is pretty complex, and when i try to render using more than about 1/3 of the layers at once i get a message saying 'error, not enough memory'.

The guage in the bottom right corner says i have about 1.8 - 2gb to work with.

decreasing the quality of the render doesn't seem to help, although i can render using the internal engine.

is there a way to make a 'render farm' of some kind, utilising other computers on the network, or render parts of the model (layers) and overlay them internally?

what do most people do when confronted with this problem?

my model isn't gigantic and my computer couldn't be much faster for a PC.

please help, i've tried other options like artlantis and maxwell render, but i cant get my materials to export propperly - transparency maps etc. and it would take too long to re-do them all

Your only options are:

Artlantis, Macintosh, Maxwell

I would say definitely get WinXP x64 over 32-bit seeing as you have 4G RAM. Then, get Artlantis anyway. It's so much nicer to use, faster, and just all round good-er!

Not really.

If ArchiCAD is too limited for your renderings, add some better program for visualization.

Artlantis might be a good trade-off between ease-of-use and quality, but to go beyond it required software like Cinema4D, 3ds Max or Lightwave.

Maxwell is getting good quality with little setup but can be really slow. And you have to ensure you use the Maxwell materials to replace the default ArchiCAD ones.

In all these scenario's, he can keep using his DELL PC.

The 3Gb switch only works to a certain extent and still only allows 3Gb. Also, XP 64-bit is much more stable than vanilla XP due to it's server origins.

it's true but you can do it in 5 minutes.
changing OS is not so fast.
how does archicad work on winxp64?
