Bimx wideangle view in iPhone

David Collins

When exporting a Bimx model to iPhone, it seems to me that the camera view is preset to an extremely wide angle. All the rooms in my models look like bowling alleys. You can fuss a bit with the angle using a two finger slide across the screen, but is there a way to set the default export to a more normal view?

did you try making sure that when you are in the 3d model environment, and ready to use the BIMX exporting process, that the model DOES NOT indeed have the camera zoom already looking like the "bowlling alley" wide angle lens? I've noticed that depending on how your 'model' looks and the settings it has...that's how it will export out but perhaps there are some other "SAVE" settings within the BIMX software that you can set as a default?

Also...apparently the BIMX file that you send to users to open on a Mac or PC have different functionalities than the one you use to open on an Ipad...so keep that in mind the final output product as to where the end user will be opening up the model....in an Ipad or in a PC or in a MAC.

The camera angle in both ArchiCAD 3d and in the desktop BimX Explorer is fine. Even with the camera angle in desktop Bimx closed down to 30 degrees, it exports to the iPhone with a wide angle and fisheye effects. It may be that the export is primarily intended for iPad.

David,
with regards to the BIMx on the iphone....I can see it on the iPad...but now how do I get/retrieve/download what I'm seeing on the ipad onto my iphone?

perhaps I need to download the *.bimx file off using my iphone??? is that the way to do it?

Another question I had....when you download the "*.bimx" file into your device...be it an iphone/ iPad....where in the heck does that file reside on your device??? Since these ipad/iphone's don't have hard drives per say.....then where does the file reside? and how can I see the file?

An iPhone/iPad does have a hard drive. It is flash memory based. The file system is hidden from the user, and done so on purpose. BIMx will store the .bimx file in a location that it knows and can get to. It is not really a 2 way street of information on the iOS devices. Unless the app sends data to email or text message or icloud or dropbox or the like, it is not really coming off the device.Putting it on is easy, deleting is easy, sharing isn't. They are consuming info, not much in the creation of info.

You can download programs on both mac and windows that allow you to see the contents of an iOS device and grab files off.

Exactly as Michael said... but beyond in-app downloads, or dropbox sharing (you need a dropbox account and the dropbox iPhone/iPad app)...

Many apps, including BIMx and iVisit 3D, support document management via iTunes.

As seen in the attached screenshot, when your device is connected to iTunes (either by cable or, if IOS 5+, wifi), the bottom of the "Apps" tab for your device lists those apps that support file transfer.

In my screenshot, I've highlighted iVisit 3D, but BIMx is the same. You will see whatever documents are in that app's private storage and can delete them, drag them to your desktop (etc) - or can drag and drop new files into the Documents panel to transfer them into the private storage area for that app on your device.

This is also illustrated in detail in this Wiki article for BIMx:

Anyone using BIMx really MUST read that Wiki article to fully understand the transfer options available.

Cheers,
Karl
