.3ds to .gsm file converstion problem

I created a complicated irregular for space truss in Rhinoceros v4.0. Now I want to import it into the Archicad. I exported it from Rhino to .3ds format (.3ds file is 89 MB!). Now I run my Archicad 12, then "Import 3D Studio file" and converted the file to .gsm. But when I take a look a the size of my newly created .gsm file it is only 24 KB (and the .3ds was 89MB)? Then when I try to import this .gsm file into my floorplan, I get nothing. Just a single dot.

Where is the problem?

The size of the .3ds file is too big, or what ?

Thank you for the answer.

I would guess that size/complexity is the problem.

I have converted some pretty large models this way but the most complex was only 11.2MB as 3DS (the GSM is about 50MB) nowhere near 89MB. The strange thing is that this model is a Liebherr crawler crane modeled to a crazy level of detail (every pully, cable, track segment, bogey wheel, etc) and it slows down ArchiCAD all by itself. It's hard to see how a single space truss could be so complex.

I wonder if Rhino is the problem here. Perhaps you should try something simpler as a test.

sorry for the late answer.
Yes I did tried something more simple, and I got about 3 MB of .gsm file at the end. Again it was created in Rhinoceros 4, and it worked like a charm in Archicad.

Maybe the size of the file is the problem, I do not know.
