ArchiCad to Revit via IFC - Windows/Doors positions Issues.

Hello everyone, for some reasons when I export an ArchiCad Model to revit via IFC, using Translator For Revit Structure, all the Windows and Doors come in to Revit with an offset from the wall to the interior side of the wall. And offset seems to be equal with the wall thickness.

Hope to make sense.

Is there anyone who knows this Issue?

Hi Cosminn,
This is a known issue but unfortunately it’s on Revit’s import side which we cannot fix. We already reported the problem to Autodesk, its on them to make the next step!

Best regards!

Good day everyone,

is there any new information regarding this problem? Additionally I have found that IFC's exported from Archicad turns all building elements into objects rather than keeping a door a door and a column a column etc. as it did in the past (before AC 23).

I think there is a Classification bug in 23 or with the new opening tool when exporting IFCs. Round tripping AC23 will not convert a Door back to a Door (23 to IFC to 23) while 22 does.

Hi Zeelrich and Eduardo,

Thank you for sharing and I am sorry about the issue!

As a first suggestion, I would like to make sure the "Use BREP geometry in current color for all elements" is unchecked in the IFC Translator's Geometry Conversion, to prevent elements being imported as objects.

From ARCHICAD 23, due to the introduction of the new Opening tool, we need to pay attention to a few more options:

- The "Export gross geometry of elements" needs to be turned on, so the gross geometry of the Wall remains as well as the opening.

- It might also be a good idea to turn the Material Preservation Mode to "Never explode elements..." because it can explode elements into BREP parts based on their Materials. To prevent it, and the goal is to preserve extruded geometry, we advice to turn it to Never.

I hope this will help you with the issue. Let me know if you still have any questions about exporting/importing to IFC!

Thank you very much!

Best regards,
Minh

this seems to me to be a perfect example of GRAPHISOFT making updates with insufficient changes to the documentation supporting the tool in question.

IFC is a minefield as it is without all the added granularity to deliver an IFC file perfectly suited to its intended recipient.

If you introduce changes in the tool, for heaven's sake, please update ALL the documentation.

Hi Aaron,

Thank you for your comment!

It is true that, sometime when we create or modify a feature, we may have missed a thing or two in the Help Center, since this is a really big collection of user guide articles! Fortunately, in this case, we already had one to talk in detail about Geometry Conversion to IFC:

https://helpcenter.graphisoft.com/user-guide/89325/

We always try our best to make sure the Help Center articles are up-to-date, but in case something may slip through unnoticed, please let us know, and we will try to address it as soon as we can!

Thank you very much for your understanding! I wish you a great day!

Best regards,
Minh
