Google Earth Connections Tool for ArchiCAD 12 (Windows-only)

Not applicable
Dear Users,

The INT/US and GER versions of the Google Earth Connections tool for ArchiCAD 12 are available for download from the Graphisoft web site, with further localized versions coming in the next two weeks:

http://www.graphisoft.com/products/archicad/solutions/google_earth_connection.html

Release notes:

· As the available public Google Warehouse API does not support the Macintosh platform we will not be able to release a Macintosh version of the Google Earth Connections tool for ArchiCAD 12.

· The ArchiCAD 12 version of the Google Earth Connections tool supports SketchUP file format up to v6. Please set this file format when downloading models from the Google Warehouse.

I'm still very frustrated with the GE connection and I'm wondering what I'm doing wrong. Have followed the help, the AECbytes article and tried every setting I could think of in both, GE as well as AC.

In AC10, whether I merge or open the kmz file, I only get a place marker - which is fine for getting the coordinates of a place but nothing else.

In AC12 the snapshot brings in terrain but kmz file brings in a place marker.

There has to be something very obvious that I'm missing.

Vistasp,
If you or someone can direct me to where the AC10 GE download is I will give it a try. I've given up trying to find it on Graphisoft and the Wiki's sites.

Hi Erika,

Peter had posted it on AC-Talk, of all places.

http://archicad-talk.graphisoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=10801

I'd found it by using AC-Search. 😉

I tried merging and opening but the files kept crashing archicad10. I didn't get as far as you. Could GE might have evolved enough that the 10plugin no longer works?
Probably operator error.

Erika, did you remember to replace the GSXML.dll file in your ArchiCAD 10 folder with the one in the downloaded archive? Without that change, AC10 will crash.

I was surprised to note that the replacement file is more than a year older than the one it replaces.

Vistasp,
I'm not sure what I did wrong the first time. I redid the install and now I get the same error as you. I tried some older kmz and kml files as well as recent ones with the same result.

Erika, the GE plugin for 10 apparently insists on a place-mark being part of the kmz file. If your old files didn't have a place-mark, they would probably still give you the error.

We know that the sketchup plugin won't work with skp objects created in anything newer than SU-6; presumably it's to do with the file format. Maybe something similar happens with GE and kmz files? Could someone who's got it working in 10 shed some light on this?

Graan did you start using it with 10 or 11?

Vistasp,
I am using GE sites that have both a polygon and a placemark. I just created a new set as well.
If I save the placemark as a kmz or kml file, there are no error messages, but nothing appears imported. Saving this file as a .pla and then creating a library folder when opening it, there is nothing in this folder from GE.
If I try to bring in the polygon as either a kmz or kml, I get the error message I posted.

All I've managed to get so far is a placemark. Can't post a screenshot right now as I'm away from my main PC.

Looks like we'll have to give up on the GE connection for v. 10 after all - unless someone comes up with an answer to why it won't work.
