IFC Import Issue: Elements showing as Objects Instead of Editable Native Elements

Hi everyone,

I’ve been running into an issue when importing IFC files from external sources. Sometimes, the elements come through perfectly as native Archicad elements (e.g., walls, slabs, windows, doors, etc.), and I can edit them as expected.

But other times, all the elements are imported as generic Objects.

I'm trying to figure out what’s causing this inconsistency, and I suspect it might have to do with the IFC translator settings, either on the export or import side. Has anyone else encountered this, or have suggestions on what to check or adjust to ensure elements import correctly as native types?

Operating system used: Mac Apple Silicon

I figured it out, at least the main issue.

The Geometry Conversion-setting / "Export all model elements as:" was set on BREP when it should be set to "Parametric"

Now I can export a wall as IFC and merge the IFC with the walls turning up as walls.

But now there is another issue.

It seems I have to choose between exporting object in a way that let them be imported as their native element, or export objects extruded.

If I try any other setting, like deactivating the "Export gross geometry of elements" (see result in pic below) or setting some of the settings below as BREP there are always some issues with the export/import.
