IFC Type

When looking at an IFC export in Solibri Model Viewer, is there any way to look at what IFC type the object is?

For example a slab, is there any way I can confirm that I'm looking at an type:ifcslab?

My problem is that someone who opens my IFC files in Revit complains that it's not a proper ifcslab; he says it's just a generic object or generic polygon

You will know which classification your slab has by opening it in a viewer like Solibri or Bimcollab Zoom.
The IFC Element will appear as IfcSlab in this case.
If not, you should take a look into your translator or into your classification in ArchiCAD. Often when we import a file from an ancient version, the classification doesn't follow. If it happens, you have to reassign your slab as so.

I have opened it in Solibri. Where in Solibri does it say which type it is?

You'll see it under the Model Tree

In Solibri "Wall" effectively means "IfcWall" and Slab is "IfcSlab". Otherwise it would be an "Object".

The fact that the Revit user doesn't see it as a "proper" slab should be understood as: the IfcSlab that Revit imports becomes an object (in-place family often) that does not behave the way a Revit Floor behaves when modelled as a Sketch in Revit.

E.g. you'll have the IfcSlab as a Floor in Revit, but you probably can't edit its sketch.

With another ARCHICAD translator configuration (e.g. IFC4 MVD Design Transfer) you'll may have better luck in getting a real editable Revit Floor.

Hmm, ok, then I have a problem

This is the IFC file I have exported from ArchiCAD. It shows the slabs and quite a few walls as objects.

Ok, I had to change "ArchiCAD Classification 21" to "slab", as it was set to "(Unclassified)"

, BUT

"ArchiCAD Classification 20" was set to "slab", but it just ignored that.

The model was started in v20 and the continued in v21.

Now, I have a bunch of walls which also shows up as object. I have to change all of them?

ArchiCAD can't do this automatically?

I am not certain but this could because ARCHICAD 21 introduced the Classification Manager, while AC20 had its built-in Classification system. This may be the reason why the act differently.

to all the above fruitfull explanations I might just add some comments.
I you do such an exchange try to use only one classification system, especially when you migrated the project from 20 to 21. As Laszlo mentioned, the two programms have different classification "systems".

In Solibri you won't be able to see the apropriate IFC Entity such as IfcSlab or IfcWall. Solibri also has an internal interpretation of these enteties, hence called Slab or Wall...or an IfcBuildingElementProxy is Object. But if you really want to look at the entetie, try usind BIMcollab ZOOM from Kubus. It is an IFC Viewer with displays the Entity and the PredefinedType.

And don't forget that by exporting in IFC2x3, you have just a Reference View Model
