OBJ export problem in AC 21

Anonymous

Hello,
it looks like the wavefront (.obj) export is buggy in AC 21.
The objects don't keep their material definition.
I think the problem lies in that the material name in the .obj file can be different that the corresponding ones in the .mtl file.
Hope you can fix that soon GS.

Hello everyone,

We have investigated this report, and apparently the export is buggy in ARCHICAD 21 indeed. The mtl file contains wrong texture names, so the textures will be missing when opened.

The easiest workaround until we fix it is to save the project back to ARCHICAD 20 and export the OBJ from there.

Hi Kovacs,
Any news on this one? Spent a couple of hours yesterday trying to understand why my sketchfab export didn't work out and here I found the answer. Back-saving to 20 meanwhile

Hi,

It looks like we have found a possible cause for this bug, and we will try to include the fix in the next update (build 60xx).

I thought that Wavefront OBJ was more or less an archaic format?

Pending the bug fix ...

An easier workaround than saving back to AC 20 format and opening/exporting there, it seems to me, is to simply export a Collada DAE file from AC 21 and then use the excellent, fast and free Meshlab to open the DAE and then export it as OBJ from Meshlab. Meshlab can also export as PLY and other textured mesh formats as well.

We are relying on the obj-export in our office. Is there a more precise time plan for this bug fix?

Hi

Karl O Obj is still perfect format for me sorry to hear you think it is out of date.

Please can this be fixed asap as saving to older version is not an options as breaks certain library objects on older versions.

How is long before this is fixed. hopefully we don't have to wait until version 22.

Hey Karl,

This should be fixed in build 60xx which was released for English speaking versions as a preview already. The final version should come out in a matter of weeks, but until then, you can give it a try:
