Use the File\Libraries and Objects\Open Object command to open the file.
It will be opened as a GDL object, but the 3D will come through.

After you open the DWG file as a GDL object, you will be in the Library Editor Window.
Can you post a screenshot of what is there in the 3D Script Window and the 3D View Window of the Object?

This is a good question. Imagine we want to bring in a DWG of the floorplans to enable snapping, why can't we simply import them via the Figure button? I just want to use this as a floorplan.

The Figure Tool does not have this functionality because it brings in images as bitmap.
The Drawing Tool of Archicad 10, however, can do exactly that. All elements in the DWG placed as a Drawing can be snapped to, trimmed to etc.

Ok, I've made some boxes in autocad (as shown on the pic). Saved as an autocad2004 format.

In Archicad i choose: file > libraries and objects > open object

then open the saved 3d dwg file. After that i get a 3d script window which seems to be empty (as shown on the pic). If I save the gdl file, put it in library with library manager and put it as an object on a document, it puts nothing. No 2D no 3D. Please, tell me where's the catch?

Easiest way I have found is simply to drag a DWG into the appropriate plan view.

Doesn't that only import the 2D part?
