.shp file format

Has anyone ever tried to import a .shp file into ArchiCAD 9? I'm currently attempting to get it into AutoCAD2004, but thats being a pain as well.

Anyone have any tips on how/if it can work?

Thanks

I believe "shp" uses a longitude/latitude coordinate system. CAD-programs, by and large, use Cartesian x/y coordinate systems.

I gather AutoCAD Map (http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/index?id=3081357&siteID=123112) can translate long/lat to Cartesian, but even so, you need to determine the projection.

I have used MapInfo quite a lot. When exporting as DXF, you first need to do the coordinate conversion within MapInfo, then export. Perhaps ArcView is more user-friendly.

Are ArcView "attributes" (ie. the alphanumeric database) available in ArchiCAD?
