You could save as 2 or 3 separate files and edit each as you need.
These can be use as hotlink modules which can be brought into a master file on separate master layers that can be turned on/off to show the different designs.
Or you can simply copy the plan next to itself (all in the same file) and work on the 2 or 3 alternatives.
Or use layers and layer combinations to create alternate plans that can be edited independently of each other. Be careful with Layer Intersection Priority numbers in this case as hidden layers will affect others if the LIP numbers are the same.
At least this way you can keep all common elements in common layers and only have alternate layers for those elements you want to change.
Or if you only have up to 3 alternate designs you could use the renovation filters to turn on/off the new, existing and to be demolished elements instead of using separate layers.
But this is not what renovation filters was really designed for.
