Dimension text gap

Hi,

Is there a way to control the dimension text gap (i.e. the space between the dimension line and dimension text) without manually moving the text? I find the gap is much too small for my liking.

Nope
(only solution I know is to move text manualy)

thanks for the reply.

That's quite dissappointing to hear though. Same with leaders I suppose? I want to change how the text lines up with the leader line. The only options are top aligned, centred, or bottom aligned. 99% of the people in my area align the leader with the centre of the first line of text. Why doesn't ArchiCAD have these simple adjustments?

I wish I had an answer for that question that did not involve sarcasm, humor, or Murray-esque snarkyisms.

I heard that.

I have been wanting leader lines to align with the center of the first line of text for as long as I have been using Archicad and I know it has come up as a wish multiple times. Maybe in 11 Graphisoft can fix what appears to be a very simple problem that prevent some people (graphic snobs) from using the label tool. I use the label tool and hope I have mostly single line text

That's not the only problem with the label tool but it is a big one. It's not just graphic snobbery. A leader from the center of a block of text (unless there is a box around it) is not part of any graphic standard that I know and certainly no-one would have it point above or below the top or bottom line (again unless there is that box). Boxes around text notes is a rarity. Designing the tool to serve that purpose and not the far more common case is very bad design.

Of course the tool has only been around for about eight years and it can take time to get these new features working right. And besides, hardly anyone really needs to annotate their drawings, so what's the big deal? (Is that snarky enough?)

Well count me in under the Graphic Snobs group. I am VERY particular about how my drawings look and read. I'm just using lines with arrowheads and text boxes. It's a pain, but at least the drawings look nice.

Supposedly ArchiCAD was "made by architects for architects". Have these architects ever annotated a drawing?

yikes, that was snarky. my apologies to the developers. (although i'm sure they have thick skin.)

Yep. They do the same thing the rest of us do:
A) text and a polyline with an arrowhead on it
B) Write a custom GDL label that actually has an arrowhead that works

On the other hand sometimes its better (easier) to just give in and save the time and headache. I finally gave in on the leaders and have them come to the center of the text since that strikes me as the best compromise. After multiple projects large and small I have yet to have anybody comment on the leaders. However I have been frequently complemented on the quality and clarity of my drawings. Yes, as soon as I can get the leader to the center of the top line of text I will switch back but until then I am not losing any sleep over it. Not when I can't get a decent fascia out of 10 after all the press about the custom profiles.
