Drawing Numbering

So. . .I have the honor and privelage of generating a master layout book. I don't think that I need technical help as I have the page numbering, and title types all figured out. What I'm REALLY needing is some help on the literal page numbering to use.

For example: numbering page C-001 for the cover, then C-101 for grading, A-101 for floor plans, etc. etc.

I'd like to get a master number list for ALL project types, be it commercial, or residential.

We do use prefixes and subgroups but are having trouble making our numbers consequetive, regardless of the subgroup. For example, existing drawings have the prefix 'E' and usually start with '01' and go to, say, '04'. Sketch drawings have the prefix 'S' and would preferably start with '05'. However, it keeps defaulting to an ''01' start with each new subgroup.

The automatic numbering is so convenient that we use it all the time, regardless of this apparent limitation. Maybe we need to look harder to get around this!

If you look at the Subset settings, there should be a "Custom" setting for numbering, and a "Start with" value. Sorry I cannot be specific, but for once in my life, I am neither at work not at a machine with Archicad on it!

I will try to post something with a screenshot tomorrow (if no one beats me to it!)

Check you subset settings. In there you can designate what number to start from.

Yes we can manually nominate a starting number. But we think that it won't renumber automatically if we insert another layout in the middle of a drawing set. Suppose we have four existing drawings (ie E01, E02, E03, E04), and twenty sketch drawings starting S05, and say 100 Working drawings prefixed 'W'. If we add another 'E' type drawing, we will have to remember to renumber the 'S' group to start with 06 instead of 05, and the 'W' group, and any other group that follows. Hopefully it will then renumber all the layouts in the group.

While it is true you would have to change the starting number of each subset, it is still much easier than erasing and re-lettering all of those sheets by hand. Anybody remember Kroy? oops... I actually meant Leroy. Kroy was much more advanced. The time saved depends on what you were used to before.
