By the looks of it, your Railing consists of a Top Rail and Rails. On the End tab shown in your first image, change the dropdown to Top Rail.

Thanks but I tried that and yes the top rail will extend but California commercial code it is the handrail/handgrip that must go beyond since it is separate from the top rail and it is the handgrip that is not showing. I eventually made my own out of basic shapes and beams that only took ten minutes versus the 2 hours i spent trying to get the handrail/handgrip to work

Sorry, do not see a Handrail in your screenshots... have you actually placed it into your scheme, more than just set the settings of it?

@Ron , i.e. have you clicked the + button to actually add a handrail.

If I set the railing up with the handrail before I even place the railing does the handrail not automatically show up? also (+) button? that is the zoom button I tired your suggestion and it zooms in, is there another (+) button you are referring to? this is not intuitive and I've only been using Archicad since 1992 with version 4.1 and all previous versions before these stairs and railing tools were very intuitive.

Oh i see it now the plus on the top right within the tool settings finally got it to work thank you. Maybe in the future maybe provide a pdf showing what you are referring to.

Oh, the reference guide does not actually provide instructions on how to use it, only the video broaches on it...
