Linked files on layout won't update auto

I'm using a dedicated Archicad file just for the layout.
All linked drawings (mostly PMK, some PDF) are set to update automatically. Over time some more heavy PDFs were brought in, slowing down working in the layout. The bigger problem is more concerning: no linked file will get it's update anymore and I have to do it manually.

Can someone confirm this behaviour?
