License Delivery maintenance is expected to occur on Saturday, November 30, between 8 AM and 11 AM CET. This may cause a short 3-hours outage in which license-related tasks: license key upload, download, update, SSA validation, access to the license pool and Graphisoft ID authentication may not function properly. We apologize for any inconvenience.

PDF file size

Anyone have a explanation why a layout that has two imported PDF files (total size 100kb, all text) should, after publishing (to PDF) turn into a 5mb monster?

Nope. The issue might be unrelated, but a guess is that your pdfs are imported and treated as bit-mapped pictures?

pretty sure its not a problem of how its imported (the PLN file doesnt get significantly larger) but rather its final layout conversion into PDF. I tried both Amyuni PDF convertor and Adobe Acrobat, the latter making it a 4.5mb file....has there been any issues with nesting a PDF inside another PDF?

Just to make sure I'm understanding: there are no drawings of any kind on the layout (or Master) - only the text PDF files that originally were 100 kb?

Thanks,
Karl

correct - there is a title block on the master and on the layout 5 placed PDF pages, 4 from one file (25kb) and 1 from another(75kb).

You might have found a bug. Test what happens if you just place one of those pdfs on an empty floor plan, and print that to PDF. Then report the issue to GS through your reseller, and supply the files.

Oh, one more thing. I suddenly remembered it might be a font issue. Fonts are embedded in PDFs and display and print OK as such. But when you embed the PDF in an Archicad file and publish to PDF, it has to create a new PDF with the first one included. And that MAY (I'm not sure) mean that Archicad needs access to the embedded font as a system font file.

You know, as in the old times, when you tried tp print an Illusttrator document to a cheap inkjet non-postscript printer - there was an option to "print as image" - I think it's still available in Acrobat somewhere. The program rasterized the text to a bit-mapped image in the printer's resolution that was streamed to the printer.

If that is what Archicad does because it can't find the font file, that would explain an exploding PDF file size, while the PLN still is small.

If possible, test by embedding only PDFs that use fonts that you have installed in your system!

Even if that works, you should report it as a bug. They need to fix this.

Interesting.....placed the PDF on an empty floor plan - same result. I then changed the font to Arial and ended up with a 1.91mb PDF. Times New Roman = 2.5mb PDF.

Still bigger than they should be but at least points to the problem. Thanks for your help - I'll report the issue.

Are you running on MAC or PC? I've heard that there are some issues with the Adobe .PDF on MACs. I do know that the last build of Adobe Acrobat broke our .PDF creation process. I was told that the current problem are being looked at by Adobe.

OK. But please add your ACversion, platform, machine info in your signature! Are you using AC11? On what system?
