.PMKs vs Model import

I am starting to go back to the old way(Archicad 7.0 and before) of creating a bunch of plotmaker files from Publisher in Archicad, and importing them instead of my model views from the navigator.

Both importing and updating PMKs is much faster(nearly instant) vs. the model view, which can take more than a minute to import and update. Plus I like being able to correct the minor(layer not on) error in a PMK without having to save and update.

Besides the obvious additional pile of files sitting on my harddrive, is there any other downside?

Wondering what other people are doing...

If I used PMK's I wouldn't get to spend as much time here while my layouts update.

Ummm here on the 2nd class platform of Mac, updating views from model viewsets is not something I do during office ours anymore. Not even during lunch for projects that are nearing completion (ie more polygons, views, pages, etc). A typical large residence or commercial complex (say 30-40 pages) takes hours and hours to update in PM. This is far and away the biggest drag about using ArchiCAD. I'm sure it would be much faster if I was using a Wintel box (something garbage-picked from the local school dumpster, say) instead of a 1 year old top-of-the-line Mac, but not by that much. Not by the 10x-20x that would be required.

The only advantage I can see to using "model updating" in PM Vs dumb old PMK's --and the reason I do it this way-- is that model updating does not tie up AC. If you have to Update just a few drawings, going the PMK route, the job cannot be passed off to BA ArchiCAD. Yes, there are workarounds with running second instances of AC.... But I think the point I'm making is that with all of the computing horsepower out there these days, waiting overnight for your job to run is sort of a quaint anachronism. It reminds me of going with my dad to Faichild and him handing his stack of Fortran cards to the woman behind the glass window and waiting around to find the bug in his code. There has got to be a better way.....

So we've made the switch, and yes AC 10 has some nice features. The biggest improvement I've noticed so far is that one can actually use the model view in the layout function.

I have a migration problem: I have started linking model views into an old layout that has a bunch of PMKs, and it seems that if I import a model view of a plan, for example, it looses track of the elevations(PMKs) elsewhere in the layout book.

Do I need to relink all(egads!) my elevations to model views?

Thanks in advance.

Yes.

If the layout and the model are in the same, file, go to Drawing Manager and change the status to Internal view. Should work.
