You should save a separate view for each scale you want to print.

then set up separate views. With each view will be saved other settings such as Layer Combination, Model View Option, dimension profile/set, etc.
When you work in each view you will be seeing it as it will be printed.
With Archicad open, in the Help Menu>go to Archicad Help.
On the Contents tab:
Interaction : Navigation : The Navigator Palette : Setting up a View
Good for you using Archicad. May it start a new trend. Where in England are you? Perhaps there is someone nearby who would be willing to spend a couple hours with you. That kind of one on one help will be invaluable.
