How do I activate the "Update drawing" prompt in Plotmaker layout books?

We have some layouts that when you go to open them and they see there are files to update, you get that little window on the screen that askes if you want to update.

Some of our layouts don't ask and just automatically begin to update. Due to the file size of some of our layouts and the amount of things to update, it overloads the program and we have to Force Quit and try again.

It's a little difficult to help without knowing what version of ArchiCAD/PlotMaker you're on, but I assume it's version 9.

Having said that, your views shouldn't just update by themselves. When you open the layout book, PlotMaker should prompt you with an Update Drawings' dialog. Make sure you don't select 'Update All Drawings' chosen, instead select 'Go to Drawing Usage'.

You can use Drawing Usage to select the drawing you want to update. At the bottom of Drawing Usage you can manually switch a view from to OK if you don't want to update it.

If you're on ArchiCAD 10, you can set the Update Type for each individual drawing to either Auto or Manual in the Drawing Settings.

I do have 9, but as I stated before, it updates without asking.

The question is, with that said, how do you make it ask you.

Not sure if this is the problem, but here goes.
Sounds like you save your views into the job folder (or a folder somewhere) as pmks and use these files in the layout book?.
If so, then the jobs that are "updating" are just reading the files in that still exist in that folder.
If you delete the files/folder or rename it then plotmaker can no longer find the files in their original location, so you get prompted for the update as plotmaker needs to be directed to where the files are located.
