Walls intersecting even when in different layers with different intersection numbers

I am trying to model a piece of furniture with several drawers.

I am using walls to model the drawers. There are several drawers, placed next to each other, side by side horizontally. So, there are several walls perfectly aligned to each other and they automatically intersect, looking like there is only one long drawer/wall.

I would like the borders of these drawers remain visible in elevations and 3D documents.

So I distributed them in two layers, 'DRAWERS1' and 'DRAWERS2', setting different intersection numbers to each layer, and made an alternate distribution of the walls/drawers, so that two walls that touch each other are never in the same layer.

But this did not deactivate the automatic intersections and they still look like there was only one long wall/drawer. What is the trick to make these walls NOT to intersect?

As a workaround, I created a copy of the surface material, gave a different name (all other parameters are the same) and assigned the original and the copy alternately to the drawers. It worked, but it doesn't seem the best solution.

Thanks

It works for me just fine, both in 2D and 3D and in Elevation.
I am using the latest AC20 hotfix. Could that be the difference? Are you on the latest hotfix?
