Weird Problem with "Show on Relevant Stories"

So, a few people in the office have been having a problem where a wall or column does not show up on the plan. We changed the settings to "Show on Main Level" instead of "Show on Relevant Stories". This solved the problem in both cases. It's strange because this all happened in one day too. We continue to work, but I just cannot help but wonder why this solves the problem.

In the first problem, the column wouldn't show up at all until we changed the setting.
In the second problem, a wall was showing like the cut plan was cutting through it, yet it was below the cut plane. We were able to lower that wall below the cut plan by 6" and it showed like it wasn't being cut. So somewhere in that 6" is where the problem starts and stops.

We've all checked some standard settings which could have been affecting the problem, but they didn't produce any results. We checked the story levels to make sure that they were where they should be, we checked to make sure that the uncut pen line is set appropriately, we checked to make sure the item in question was drawn on the correct story, and we checked to make sure the layers were on (as in the first case of this problem).

Does anyone have any ideas on why the "Show on Relevant Stories" setting is messing with drawings in a weird way?
