Is there a name that can be obtained from GDL, such as VIEW's LAYER COMBINATION LAYER, MVO NAME, or GOC NAME?

No, not really.

I wished once for this feature, but I'd still rather describe that as a hack.

If we had this possibility this would create potential mayhem and would lead to non-deterministic behaviour.

In nearly all instances there are other ways to solve the thing you need.
