ArchiCAD Speed

Hi,
I have been having prouble with the speed of my current project for a while. I was using ArchiCAD 12, on a core 2 duo 2.53Ghz machine with 4GB RAM. So moderate specs.

The ArchiCAD file I am working on is around 100MB with some complex curtain wall elements.

My boss has kindly spent some money to upgrade my computer.
Now running i7 3.4Ghz, 8GB RAM, 64 bit, 1gb graphics.

The file is still running slow, so I thought I would try ArchiCAD 15. (more expence in a tough economic climate)

But there is still a few second delay every time i stretch a wall, add a dimension node.

Is there a way I can improve my performance of my system, before I tell my boss it is still slow? (I would prefer not to be strangled)

The trace and reference can affect the speed.
Is it turned off?
Not just the dialogue but the actual reference.

Tom,

Your new hardware should have no problems with ArchCAD.

Talk to the local reseller and tech support, they will help identify the cause of any slowness.

Yeah I know there is issues with trace reference, but I am not using that.

Will talk to Graphisoft. Thats if they care much about a little Adelaide client. Thanks Guys

A thought:
I recently upgraded to Windows 7 from XP and I was seeing these kinds of delays in ArchiCAD 15. Turned out I hadn't loaded the W7 drivers for my graphics card (NVIDIA GeForce 9600). After loading the drivers ArchiCAD was running smoothly again.

Archicad tends to run slow if there is other software using 3D graphic card at the same time (Like Sketchup)

For this case you can disable OpenGL acceleration in Archicad 2D windows .

I would like to know what Archicad project wrong techniques make a project to become slow .

SEO operations , accessory objects , duplicate and big libraries loaded , difficult and unoptimized embedded GDL objects , transparent hatch in 2D can make a project to become difficult to edit .

The main drag I've been experiencing lately is when I have complex IFC models visible. This affects both 2D and 3D. The models are imported mostly as generic parts since I have so far had poor results importing as native MEP. I just need the geometry to be accurate so this is OK but the native parts (walls and structure) seem to be much faster than the generic IFC MEP.

Otherwise the performance of AC15 seems very good, and this is on a MacPro that's approaching four years old.

I think there is still an issue with the marque tool as well (i.e if a marque is active AC slows down). It was supposed to have been fixed but it still seems slow to me.
