Archicad 29.2 crashing on MAc

I upgraded to 29.2 and had multiple crashes in multiple different files doing randomly different things. I gave up and went back to 29.1 which is working fine. Anybody else having issues with the latest update? I am on an M5 Macbook Pro.

Good point on the updated older versions crashing. I had a file that opened fine on my M1 with Sequoia but crashed constantly on my M5 with Tahoe. Repair didn't work and actually crashed as well. I ended up creating a new file and copying everything over wasting a day of work. At the time I sent it to my reseller and figured it was a one off. By the way not a peep from my reseller. But since then I have had more files getting corrupted and crashing. Reading Apples crash report some of them seem to be related to ArchiCAD Quicklook so I have turned that off. I haven't been at it long enough since then to tell if that makes a difference. I have been taking the time to update all library parts to the current library in hopes that that will help.

Hi all,

Thank you for reporting this crash issue.

I'd like to kindly ask those of you who experienced the crash after installing the AC29.2.0 update on macOS to share the Bug ID from the Graphisoft Bug Report app.

If the program crashes without the Bug Reporter popping up, please let me know as well. If the Bug ID is available, it would help us greatly in investigating the underlying issue.

Thank you in advance for your assistance!

Kind regards,
Kornél

three of our users are experiencing crashes during typical tasks (deleting/changing hotlinks, spliting a slab, etc.) on 29.2, but on windows.

Hello @Kornel Beleznai,

Please see this related topic about Archicad crashing after a computer is put to sleep:

https://community.graphisoft.com/t5/Installation-update/archicad-interrupted-logout/m-p/707391#M3955...

It just happened to me again today. No change in network, just close the lid, come back a couple days later (after holiday weekend), open lid to find the crash report. I will add that after restarting Archicad my teamwork project opens in offline mode. This is also common.

Here are the reports:

Brad,

I always work in full-screen mode on my Mac, due to the increased screen real estate when the Menu Bar disappears.   But I get a crash every time I exit from full screen mode. Every time.  This has not been a problem in the past.

I encountered the Wake-from-Sleep crash again, along with the frequent Project-Starts-in-Offline-Mode error. So I reported it to Tech Support* and received this reply. I followed all the suggestions and it seems to have worked.

Reducing how often the Archicad 29 crash issue occurs

I’m sorry that you’re experiencing this Archicad 29 crash. The Bug ID you provided is associated with a known Teamwork‑related software error in our system (internal reference DEF‑27907). This issue is planned to be fixed in the Archicad 29.3.0 update slated to be released later this year.

In the meantime, there are some steps that may help reduce how often this crash occurs:
  • Restart Archicad regularly instead of keeping the same Teamwork session open for several days, especially on large or frequently edited projects.
  • Make sure your network connection is stable while you are connected to BIMcloud SaaS (avoid switching Wi‑Fi networks or using unreliable VPN connections during Send/Receive operations).
  • Before putting your Mac to sleep or closing the lid, save and close Archicad to avoid potential data loss or background connection issues.
  • Optionally, you can adjust a couple of macOS settings that help keep Archicad’s connections more reliable. These changes do not directly fix the specific defect we’re discussing, but they reduce the chances of additional connection‑related issues and help create a more stable overall environment.
    • First, set “Wake for network access” to “Always” in System Settings, so your Mac can maintain or quickly restore its network connection when it wakes from sleep, which is important for stable communication with license servers and BIMcloud SaaS.
    • Second, make sure your system time is set to update automatically in System Settings > General > Date & Time, because an incorrect or drifting clock can cause problems with secure server and license connections.

Resolving the issue where the Archicad Teamwork Project opens in offline mode

Regarding the issue where the Archicad Teamwork Project opens in offline mode, it may help to resolve that issue to perform the following steps in their given order.

Step 1 - Perform an Archicad Preferences Cleaning

As noted in the "Preferences Cleaning" article, the Archicad preferences cleaning procedure requires quitting out of Archicad 29 USA and manually deleting the following folders and files:
  • Users/<username>/Library/Preferences/Graphisoft/AC xx.0.0 yyy v1 folder - For example, for Archicad 29 USA installed to an Apple Silicon Mac, the folder name is AC-ARM 29.0.0 USA v1- this folder contains the basic preferences files and all the Work Environment files.
  • Users/<username>/Library/Preferences/com.Graphisoft.AC xx.0.0 yyy v1.plist file - For example, for Archicad 29 USA installed on an Apple Silicon Mac, the file name is com.graphisoft.AC-ARM 29.0.0 USA v1.plist - this file contains some basic settings of ARCHICAD. The Windows equivalent of this file are the Registry keys.
  • Users/<username>/Library/Caches/Graphisoft folder - this folder contains library cache files and the local cache copy of network libraries.
  • Users/<username>/Library/Application Support/Graphisoft folder - this folder contains the Archicad autosave folder, the ARCHICAD templates, the DXF-DWG translators, IFC preferences, Bug reporter log files, publisher log files, and the local cache of the Teamwork projects. Note: You may want to back up this folder in order to keep your Work Environment files and DXF-DWG translators. In case having unsent changes in Teamwork projects, then do not delete ~/Library/Application Support/Graphisoft/TW Data folder.

Step 2 - Refresh your BIMcloud SaaS login

To refresh your BIMcloud SaaS login and reconnect:
  1. In Archicad, go to Teamwork > Project > Open/Join Teamwork Project.
  2. In the dialog box, click the dropdown in the top-right corner (where your username is shown).
  3. Select Remove "[Your Name]".
  4. Then click the dropdown in the top-left corner (where the BIMcloud name appears).
  5. Select Remove "[Your Company’s BIMcloud]" from List.
  6. Click Login to a different BIMcloud.
  7. Enter the full BIMcloud SaaS address — be sure to include the https:// prefix (i.e., https://iandidesign.bimcloud.com).
  8. Log in using your Geoff Briggs | [email protected] Graphisoft ID email and password.

* I reported this using the new web-based tech support portal, and received a prompt and on-point response from Ryan McCusker. Best tech support experience in a long time.
