GraphicsCards for ArchiCad

Hy to all...

I searched this forum up and down and used the graphics card compatibility site and also has contact with the archicad support hotline.

There are no answers for any my questions...

1.) I know the main differences between workstation and desktop graphics cards and drivers, but what are by using archicad.
Are the performance with a workstation graphics card so much better, that its justify the much higher price????

2.) If I invest in a normal desktop graphics card (i. e. Ati X1800GTO, 256MB GDDR3, 256Bit) and use the money for 2GByte DDR2-800 Ram... will I lost performance...???

3.) Out there? Is there any comparison between desktop graphics card and workstation graphics card and archicad...

4.) What about the Mac, NVIDIA GeForce 6600 mit 256 MB GDDR SDRAM works there... Thats a normal desktop graphics card... When I will a NVIDIA Quadro FX 4500 I have to pay 1710 Euro more...

ArchiCAD cannot exploit the graphics card like you might wish. Once you have 256 Mb on your card, it will be adequate.

Get more real computer RAM, since ArchiCAD uses the CPU to do its work....

There has been quite a bit of discussion of this over here.

As Dwight says, buy the RAM, the graphics card doesn't make that much difference to real world productivity (as long as it's pretty good). CPU speed and memory are what count.
