Key combination in Mac OS X

When working on a 3D window and trying to go from wireframe to shaded I hit by mistake Ctrl-Opt-Cmd-8. For a couple of seconds I had a major scare (nothing bad happens, and you get back from the funny look by hitting Ctrl-Opt-Cmd-8 again).

What is that supposed to be?

This has nothing to do with ArchiCAD. It's part of Apple's system-wide Universal Access which can be configured via a System Preference pane of the same name.

I can see that. I would have never noticed it had I not mistyped my Ctrl-Opt-Cmd-'9'. What is the negative-like looking screen meant for?

It is presumably easier to read for people with certain visual impairments.
