Just a bug heads up to the devs - not sure if this is the correct place to post.

I get a recurring prompt upon opening the ArchicadStarter as per the title and screen grabs below. Every time I select 'open project' or double click from the list BEFORE this prompt displays, the project will never open - it's a 100% occurrence. The cursor will just blue cycle until I force quit. If I cancel the prompt and then double-click open a project quickly it will open with no problem; if I wait a few more seconds until just before the same prompt shows up again, it will freeze again as above. Perhaps it's a Windows printer issue, but probably something GS should get onto as it disrupts the working day.

More recently a crash prompted the same message at the bugsplat window and it was unable to finish sending (or so it appeared) and I was unable to cancel out.

It 100% happens every time I start Archicad so I'm happy for a dev to get in touch and work through diagnostics for a solution.

Side note:

I'm unable to see & edit my signature while creating a new post to see if all the necessary info is there; i understand that it's located elsewhere, but I would put to the forum builders that a better location is at the bottom of 'create new topic' where it would load your signature and enable editing, and auto store it for next time. It can be kept up to date more easily that way.

I thought i was the only one experiencing this since i did a full refromat of my laptop.  This is annoying including all the loading of sample projects in the home page. Hope they can revert back to AC27 style of opening files

Did you guys perform the Registry "hack" suggested by Oleksandra?

https://community.graphisoft.com/t5/Installation-update/Please-wait-for-printer-connection-or-cancel...

Here is the Registry entry in question:

Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\GRAPHISOFT\ARCHICAD\Archicad 28.0.0 INT R1\PrintPlot

I would quit Archicad, change the Registry setting, and then restart the computer to ensure the setting is applied.

2x28" (2560x1440), Windows 10 PRO ENG, Ac20-Ac28

According to this thread, and our experience still the same today, this issue are persistent and have not been resolved since at least March 2024.

See: Bug Reporter are stuck + persistent popup "Please wait for printer connection or cancel connect...

I changed the registry entry as suggested by @Oleksandra Vakariuk but it is not making any difference.

I still get multiple "Printer" popups when AC29 crashes with any IFC import and the same popups when I close AC27/28/29 normally.

At the same time, the AC29 Bug Report is stuck and does not complete the submission. After some time I have to force quit the Bug Reporter.

We're still waiting for functional software.....

Please dont come back asking if our windows printers settings are correct for a third time. Trust us, they are default, and that response only frustrates an already stressed out group of people.

Find a solution, yesterday please.

Dear Colleagues,

Here are some suggested fixes for this situation, for us the problem never came back, so I hope it helps you all too!

Suggested Fixes

A. Set a Virtual Default Printer (like Microsoft Print to PDF)

  1. Go to Settings → Bluetooth & Devices → Printers & Scanners

  2. Turn off “Let Windows manage my default printer”

  3. Choose Microsoft Print to PDF or a similar always‑available virtual printer as the default

Users across apps (LibreOffice, Cubase, etc.) report that this stops the delay entirely—even if the physical printer is offline

B. Remove Unused Printers

Completely deleting legacy or offline printers from Control Panel or Settings reduces chances that Windows will try to connect to them. Many users found that simply removing unused printer entries eliminated the message

C. Replace WSD Ports with TCP/IP

For network printers using WSD, Windows may continually attempt discovery—even when the printer is off. Changing to a standard TCP/IP port with a fixed IP can resolve delays and connection checks

D. Optional: Clean Boot + Spooler Restart

On Microsoft community forums, advanced users also recommend performing a clean boot and restarting the Print Spooler service or checking for hung/spool queue entries. These steps may help if the cause is entangled with stale jobs or drivers

🧭 Personalized Action Plan

  1. In Windows Printers & Scanners, disable automatic management of the default printer.

  2. Set Microsoft Print to PDF (or similar) as the default.

  3. Remove any offline or legacy printers/ports you no longer use.

  4. For network printers using WSD, consider re-adding them as a fixed TCP/IP port if necessary.

  5. Restart the Print Spooler service and optionally try a clean boot if the issue persists.

Thanks Otari.

The issue with modern working setups ie. from home and office. Im often at home away from the work printers - which will be offline in my printer list - and deleting them is not an option as i will eventually return to the office and need to print.

Latest crash picking up door settings in an internal elevation:

I'm not sure the crash report ever goes through.

Which is probably why this BASIC BASIC PRINTER issue still persists.

C'mon GS, fix this.
