USB plug harddrive

When I open a file from a USB plug hard drive in my new G5, the AC solo project file I saved from my G4 turns into a "unix executable file" which I can't open. Also the portable harddrive contains files such as "Finder.Dat" which I have never seen before. Can anyone tell me what's happening?

do a "get info" on the file. Look for the "open with" section and change the program to AC also press the "change all" button. Looks as if OS X does not know what app to use to open the file.

Finder.dat is a hidden file for the OS it basically tells finder how to display the icons.
Anyway have you tried the obvious...Copy the file to your hard disk, open AC and then look for the file
Another Q what OS is running in the G4?

I am tranferring files from AC7.0 in G4, with OS 9.4 to AC 7.0 running claasic in OS X.3.2. Is that the problem? I did copy the filw to the resident hard disk before trying to open iy.

Could be. Why are you running AC7 in Classic? That is bound to be all kinds of pain.

I found the problem , but not the solution. It seems the USB plug itself is the problem. Data transfer works fine if I use a Lacie 80 G harddrive. Everything I store in the hd shows up in the G5 , no funny or strange unexpected files .

Try reformatting the USB drive. Most of them come formatted for PC instead of Mac

The problem is that the hard-drive that you are using is in a PC format. This cannot save the MAC-file's resource fork, so it just chops it off. you need to either reformat the drive or SIT or HQX your files before saving them to that drive.
