I'm looking at buying a new laptop. I seem to recall in the past that certain individuals had problems with vista. I was wondering, now that Vista's been out for a while, if anyone has any input as to any compatibility issues. I'm using XP Pro now and AC 11.
Thanks,
Doug

Don't bother with vista unless you have at least 2 cores at over 2.5Ghz, at least 4Gb of RAM, and a decent Graphics Card.
This thing here would easily outperform most Workstation desktop machines. Just throw in some more RAM:
I've been using Vista for a couple of months now and I'm very happy with it.

It's not just the economy that's driving the heavy discounts I'm seeing.
If you haven't bought yet and can wait a bit, a whole new slue of HP lap tops with quad cores is about the hit the market.
Right after they get rid of all the duo's at xmas and Jan "white" sales.
The heavy discounts tipped me off to ask the right questions at Frys and others.

What is the go with 4GB RAM for Vista? I thought that 32 bit processors could only handle 3GB - am I mistaken?

According to Wikipedia (
# AMD's AMD64 extensions (used in Athlon 64, Opteron, Sempron, Turion 64 and Phenom processors)
# Intel's Intel 64 extensions (used in newer Celeron, Pentium 4, Pentium D, Xeon, and Core 2 processors
If you are also using 64-bit Vista then that should be fine.
I am currently using Vista 32-bit and the system sees only 3.2 GB of RAM.

I don't know why people persist in selling machines with 32-bit operating systems on them. 64-bit should be standard with the
Sorry I wasn't clear. I've been using 64bit OSes for the last several years and have never looked back.
