The latest 28.1 (4001) update somehow corrupted my AC 28 installation, so I had to delete it and am reinstalling from the 3001 base install and will then apply the 28.1 update to that. The new automatic update download is confusing since it doesn't put the DMG file in the Downloads folder, but stashes it somewhere else...that I can't find. I'd both like to delete older downloads that are just wasting space... and find the already-downloaded 28.1 update file. Anyone know where these things get stored by AC 28? I checked Application Support, but didn't see it there...
Or, maybe AC 28 deletes the dmg files after installing?

On macOS, check the folder ~/Library/Caches/Graphisoft/ACUpdate/
. There should be a folder named with numbers, and inside it, you should find the update DMG file.

On Windows, I found the install files in the following folder:
C:\Users\<UserProfile>\AppData\Local\GRAPHISOFT\ACUpdate
Within the folder, each Update has its own folder, with the install file within the folder.

Thanks @vlahtinen - found them there and deleted. (Seems dumb that they remain, eating up space, after installation.)
And, thanks, @Laszlo Nagy for providing the answer for Windows users. I changed my subject line to be generic so that both of these answers might be found by users on either platform.
