plotmaker won't update

I have archicad version 8.1 and plotmaker version 9. When I try to update the links in plotmaker I get an error message that reads "Plotmaker could not launch ArchiCad because it does not know Archicad's path on your computer. Archicad may not have been installed or launched on this computer yet."

Is this because I'm using the two different versions? Or is it a Windows XP issue? Any help would be appreciated.

I suspect this is because you are using 2 different versions. I have never tried this with 8.1 but Plotmaker 9 is probably looking to open AC 9 BG and can't find it. Are you trying to use placed quickviews or PMK files?

quickviews. I don't know how to do a PMK. I'm fairly new at this. Have had a tutor, and he couldn't figure out why this error message was coming up. Either could the dealer I bought my software from. Seems I may need to upgrade to Archicad 9 now (altho I was trying to wait a couple of months til the next upgrade came out....) your thoughts?

I am kind of wondering why you are using a newer version of Plotmaker with your 8.1 ArchiCAD. Plotmaker 3.1 is the version that should install with AC 8.1. I just tried importing a saved view and a PMK file from an 8.1 PLN file I have and it seemed to work OK. However when it imported the saved view it may have been opening the file in AC 9. I could not tell.

It is simple to make a PMK. As soon as you have a plan or other view that is ready to publish just save it as a PMK file. Name it appropriately and put in a place you can find it from Plotmaker. When you open plotmaker just import the PMK file and place it in the sheet as you would any other view. The PMK file does not update automatically. When you make changes in ArchiCAD you will need to resave it overtop of the original PMK and then update it in Plotmaker. Hope this helps.

Perhaps someone else knows why you are getting this error message.

Upgrade by all means and forget PMKs.

Check with your reseller - as 10 is lurking around the corner, there is probably some kind of special for the upgrades now.

What components? It is very possible that you are not finding what you need.

I am experiencing the same problem, as we have made the switch to AC10, but don't have the time to bring our 'old projects' over. So we intermittently use AC9, but are unable to get the path from PlotMaker to ArchiCAD.

What raises further suspicion is that it succeeds on one computer, and fails on another, identical machine. It leads me to believe that there is an installation/update/re-install sequence, depending upon the key, upgrade or new license, etc. which is causing the issue. No answer yet, but maybe some different thinking will help the process.

Thanks!
