If an element has already been labeled i can still see it but if I reapply it it disappears. The hotspots are visible but not the ID text. Is there something about v9 label scripting that has changed?

Depending on the label you are using, sometimes you need to go in to the "Symbol Label" area of the dialogue box and click on or off on the "Use Symbol Arrow" box.
