MSA Steel Shapes are grayed out & can not be used

Robert Fuchs

We are using the AC 9 lib on our macs. THe macs that are using OS X 10.3
can use the steel shapes but everyone using 10.4 can not. They are the only
library parts that grey out. Both AC and the OS are up to date. When the file
is open that cantains these lib parts they just show up as the usual dot of an
unloaded library part yet they do not show up as missing ffrom the library. When you select one fo the steel shapes in the MSA lib on the OS 10.4 computer you get this error.

File not found, can't open for imput while operating on file 'MSA_Steel.txt.'

Has anyone else had this issue? We are currently having to explode the
library part in one fo the 10.3 computers so the other can use them and
plotmaker since they do not show up there either if a 10.4 user imports the
view.
Thanks for any help,
Robert Fuchs

Odd. I'm running OX10.4.5,build 2172, using server based libraries just like I think you are & have never seen this. I just opened an old project using this config on a G5 and all the MCA libraries worked fine.

Could it be a cache problem?

I just finished setting up a G5 with 10.4 b/c of a HDD failure. It is working
fine. I tried to do a repair of AC on one of the computers that is not working.
It did not work. The only difference between the G5 that works and the ones that do not is the that works is a single 1.8 processor and the others are
dual 2.0. The 10.4 computers that do not work were not upgraded from 10.3 so I have marked that off my list. The only other test I can think of doing is
formatting and reinstalling the OS on a computer that does not work and see if it will fix the problem. Although if that fixes the problem I do not want to do
this to the other 20 mac I have.

Did you try repairing permissions?

I have to say, for the record, that in administering to Apples for the last three years, we have never once "Repaired permissions," and have never had a problem because of it.

I sometimes think it's a total myth.

I have never repaired permissions. Are you referring to the library on
our server? I will certainly give it a try.

The MSA library steel shapes read their 2d information in from the missing text file MSA_Steel.txt. The file should be in the ArchiCAD 9 folder (Applications/Graphisoft/ArchiCAD 9/). I bet you'll find the file is on the 10.3 computers but missing from the 10.4 computers.

If that's the case copy the file over and reload the libraries and everything should work as expected. There's also a file MSA uses called MSA_Steel_Index.txt. Make sure it's been copied as well.

The MSA TXT files were missing from the AC folder and that fixed
the problem. Thanks a lot! I guess the network install I set up and used
on these computers left those out for some reason. Anyway I appreciate
it.
