If i download a helpful free GDL from another site can i put it in GDL Object Depository w/out any liability concerns?

It depends on the usage terms of the site you got it from. I would assume it's not OK unless you can find something in their Terms of Use that says it's OK.

It's a lot safer to just share the link.

A few years ago a German boy had to pay panalty, because he offered on his website wall papers he found on another website, the author offered there for free and download. Thats absolut right IMHO. The author has the copyright and has to decide, what may be done with its work. That someone offers for free, does not mean, that you can do anything with it!

There are several link lists for GDL objects. Best I know is Jochen Sühlos site gotogdl.net.

There is a topic in Tips&Tricks forum dedicated to library objects and Web sites hosting them. Post the link there, unless it is already present.

My 2¢...

Many sites offer free stuff in order to attract traffic. To post the same stuff elsewhere defeats that purpose and deprives the authors of just compensation for their generosity. Stealing in this fashion from those who are generous enough to give their stuff away seems worse than software piracy which often amounts to free advertising for the publisher.
