Hello,
Recently I spent a lot of time making a mesh in the shape of
a sailboat hull to test the SEO capabilities of AC 8.1.
The mesh has hundreds of points all needed to force AC
to model the shape correctly.
The mesh was saved as an autoscripted object converting the
mesh into the MASS command. The MASS command code for the
hull shape was copied and pasted in the 3D script and then rescaled
slightly smaller using the MUL x,y,z transformation and the smaller shape is subtracted from the larger shape using the solid geometry command SUBGROUP.
This made a hollow shape with a wall thickness of about 1" but is,
by every means of testing I know, a "true solid".
This library part has two rotate transformations for the whole object,
"Pitch" and "Roll" to rotate the object about the "Y" axis
and about the "X" axis (fore and aft axis) respectively.
I have placed this object into a slab in the floor plan
then selected the slab as target and the hull shape as operator
and "subtracted with upward extrusion" the hull shape from the slab.
The SEO works OK as long as the object has zero "Pitch" and zero "Roll".
But if the object is given any "Pitch" or "Roll" the SEO fails.
Has anyone found a way to make SEO work in such circumstances
in AC 8.1 or has anyone who is aware of the failings of SEO
AC 8.1 verified that some or all such failings have been fixed
in AC 9?
I can not verify this myself as I do not have AC 9.
Would anyone who has AC 9 care to test this object to see
if SEO works any better in AC 9?
Thank you,
Peter Devlin
